DAP holds protest against “land eviction” order in Ramban

Hundreds of workers from the Democratic Azad Party (DAP) held a peaceful demonstration against a land eviction order issued by the government. The party leaders and workers marched to the District Commissioner’s (DC) office in Ramban and handed over a memorandum to the DC, urging authorities to reconsider their decision.

The DAP leaders present at the demonstration, including General Secretary R.S.Chib, G.M.Saroori Vice President, Jugal Kishore Sharma Provincial President, and Aslam Goni Working Committee Member, among others, spoke out against the order, stating that it would hurt thousands of families and render them homeless in these harsh winters.

General Secretary R.S.Chib stated that the aim of laws is the welfare of common people, but in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the laws are framed to disempower people. He called for immediate elections to be held so that the UT can have an elected government, stating that it has been over five years since the UT has had a government.

G.M.Saroori Vice Chairman, according to The Chenab Times, stated that the land under the Roshni Scheme was provided to poor and needy people after the Assembly approved the legislation. It was a pro-poor initiative by the then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and the present regime is undoing it. He said the DAP will not watch silently handling of crucial affairs of Jammu and Kashmir by some officers.

DAP Chief Spokesperson Salman Nizami also spoke out against the order, stating that in democracies, elected governments have only mandate to frame the public policies but the UT is denied of this constitutional right and a bunch of officers are empowered to write our fate.

The demonstration was attended by many party workers and leaders, including Munner Bhatt, Dr Asif Khanday, Gulzar Wani, Farooq Ganai, Alyas Wani, Sheikh Shabir, Asghar Rasool, Girdari Lal Bahu, Iqbal Katoch, Rehmatullah Runiyal, Arif Salaria, Farooq Wani, Mohd Isaq, Shameem Begum, Narinder Kour, Munshi Ram, Azhar Sheikh and others. The DAP has stated that their protest will continue until the eviction order is revoked.
