Deaf-Mute Student from Doda District Handwrites Entire Quran, Sets Stirring Example of Devotion

Doda, June 6 — In a remote hamlet nestled in the mountainous terrain of Bhalessa in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, a young girl has quietly accomplished a feat that has stirred hearts and inspired minds across the region. Mavish Arif, a 10th-grade student from Batara Gawalo village, has hand-written the entire Quran Sharif — a task she undertook independently over a span of nine months, despite being deaf and mute since birth.

Without formal guidance or institutional support, the 16-year-old secluded herself in her modest home and dedicated herself to the sacred endeavour. Her family, visibly moved by her discipline and unwavering focus, recounted how Mavish declined assistance, choosing instead to immerse herself fully in the spiritual and intellectual task.

Local educators and religious scholars have hailed the achievement as unprecedented in the region. According to her family and school authorities, she is the first student in the Doda district to have completed such a monumental task in her own handwriting.

Mavish’s school principal in Gandoh, Mr. Ajeet Singh, who closely observed and supported her journey, expressed pride in her efforts.

“Being a deaf and mute girl, Mavish has not only made her family proud but also uplifted the spirit of the entire school and the district,” Mr. Singh told The Chenab Times. “We are confident she has the potential to excel in any field she sets her heart on — whether engineering or any other competitive domain.”

Her achievement, accomplished in a region marked by geographical isolation and limited access to educational resources, is being viewed as a remarkable testament to individual resilience, faith, and quiet determination.

Community leaders in Bhalessa have expressed admiration for Mavish’s accomplishment, calling it a moment of collective pride and reflection. “In an age where distractions are many, her singular focus on a spiritual goal stands as an example for us all,” said one village elder.

As news of her feat spreads, Mavish Arif has emerged as a symbol of perseverance and devotion — a young woman whose silence speaks volumes, and whose work is echoing far beyond the hills of Doda.
