Seven Kashmiris Feared Dead in Kullu Landslide, Rescue Operations Underway

Kullu, Himachal Pradesh – At least seven residents from Kashmir are feared dead following a massive landslide that struck Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, according to officials cited by the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The victims, all laborers from Tulail in Bandipora district, were working in the area when the disaster occurred, as per details received by The Chenab Times.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reported that the landslide caused the collapse of two houses, trapping approximately 12–13 individuals. “An NDRF team carried out collapsed structure search and rescue (CSSR) operations, during which three injured persons were rescued and one body was recovered,” the NDRF stated on X. Rescue operations are ongoing to locate the remaining trapped victims.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gurez confirmed that at least four of the feared deceased are from Tulail, Bandipora, identified as Mehrajudin Lone, son of Sabir Lone; Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh; Hussain Lone, son of Sultan Lone, currently residing at Guchi Mahalla, Akhal Kangan; and Rashid Sheikh, son of Jamal Sheikh, presently residing at Kangan. Details about the remaining victims are still being gathered.

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Office expressed grief over the loss of lives in a post on X, assuring that all possible assistance is being extended to the affected families. Rescue efforts continue amidst challenging conditions in the landslide-hit area.
