A Jammu and Kashmir Police constable was killed during an encounter with militants in Soan village of Majalta area in Udhampur district on Tuesday. Security forces continued the operation as the militants fled into dense forests.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the cordon-and-search operation launched on Monday evening based on specific intelligence about three militants hiding in the area. Contact established around evening, leading to exchange of fire.

Constable Amjad Ali Khan from Mendhar in Poonch district sustained critical injuries in the initial gunfire. The Hindu reported he succumbed due to excessive blood loss despite evacuation efforts. Khan, a Special Operations Group member and father of two, was the family’s sole breadwinner.

Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti stated a small SOG team engaged the militants, believed affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad. The terrorists escaped into hilly, thickly forested terrain. Joint forces including Army and CRPF reinforced the cordon for combing operations.

A wreath-laying ceremony held in Udhampur, attended by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other officials. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary paid tributes, saluting Khan’s sacrifice. Mortal remains sent to his native village for last rites.
