Ganderbal Hosts Tribute Half Marathon Honouring Paratrooper Shabir Ahmad Malik

Srinagar: A half marathon was organised in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday to pay tribute to Paratrooper Shabir Ahmad Malik, Kirti Chakra (Posthumous). The event, themed “Run for Honour, Run with Pride,” drew a significant number of runners from across the Kashmir Valley, highlighting community engagement and remembrance.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the race commenced from Qamariya Ground in Ganderbal and culminated at Sainik School Manasbal. Participants displayed considerable enthusiasm and endurance during the entire course of the run.

The event was organised by the Chinar Corps as part of efforts to honour fallen soldiers and foster a spirit of pride and patriotism. The half marathon route was designed to showcase the scenic beauty of the region while providing a challenging course for the athletes.

Tahir Aziz Malik secured the first position in the half marathon, completing the distance in 1 hour and 25 minutes. His performance marked a notable achievement in the competitive field of runners who participated in the tribute event.

The half marathon saw participants from various districts of the Kashmir Valley, with many expressing their commitment to supporting such initiatives that honour military personnel. The theme “Run for Honour, Run with Pride” resonated with the participants, many of whom saw it as an opportunity to connect with the sacrifices made by soldiers like Paratrooper Shabir Ahmad Malik.

Local authorities and military officials were present to encourage the runners and acknowledge their participation. The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony where the winners and distinguished participants were recognised for their efforts. The organisers stated that such events are crucial for maintaining a connection between the community and the armed forces.

Paratrooper Shabir Ahmad Malik was awarded the Kirti Chakra (Posthumous) for his exceptional bravery and service. The half marathon served as a platform not only for athletic competition but also for the dissemination of awareness about the contributions and sacrifices of soldiers in safeguarding the nation.
