Kashmir School Timings Revised Effective April 1, 2026

SRINAGAR: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has announced a revision in school timings across all government and recognised private educational institutions within the Kashmir Division. The new schedule is set to commence from April 1, 2026.

According to Order No. 119-DSEK of 2026, dated March 30, schools situated within the municipal limits of Srinagar city will adhere to timings from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This revised timing applies specifically to institutions falling under the Srinagar Municipal Corporation boundaries.

For schools located outside the municipal limits of Srinagar district, and indeed for all other educational institutions across the broader Kashmir region, the operational timings will be from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. This schedule aims to standardise school hours across varying geographical and administrative zones within the division.

The DSEK has issued a directive to all concerned institutions, mandating strict compliance with the newly revised timings. The directorate has emphasized that no deviations from this schedule will be permitted, underscoring the importance of consistent adherence for administrative and academic purposes.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the revision intends to ensure uniformity in the academic calendar and operational efficiency of educational facilities. The move is expected to streamline daily routines for students, teachers, and staff across the valley.

The Directorate of School Education Kashmir is the primary administrative body responsible for the oversight and regulation of education within the division. Its decisions regarding academic calendars, school timings, and educational policies are binding on all affiliated institutions, including both public and private entities that are recognised by the government.

This revision comes as part of the DSEK’s ongoing efforts to optimize the educational environment and ensure that schools operate within conducive hours for learning. The implementation date of April 1, 2026, provides institutions with a clear timeframe to adjust their logistical arrangements and communicate the changes to all stakeholders, including students and parents.
