Militant Killed in Ganderbal Encounter, Operations Continue

SRINAGAR: Security forces have neutralized one militant during an ongoing encounter in the Arahama area of Ganderbal district in central Kashmir, the Army announced on Wednesday. The operation commenced following specific intelligence inputs indicating the presence of militants in the region.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the joint operation was initiated on Tuesday evening by a combined team of the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The forces established a cordon around the suspected area and commenced search operations. Intermittent firing was reported during the night as tactical reorganisation of the cordon took place.

In an update posted on X, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the success of the operation, stating that own troops effectively retaliated with a calibrated response. This response resulted in the elimination of one terrorist. The Army further indicated that the operation is still in progress, suggesting the possibility of further developments or the presence of other militants in the vicinity.

Officials indicated that the specific intelligence inputs were crucial in the timely launch of the operation, preventing potential threats. The Ganderbal district, like other areas in the Kashmir Valley, has seen security forces maintain a heightened state of alertness to counter militant activities. The joint operations by the Army and local police are a standard procedure to ensure a coordinated and effective response to such security threats.

The encounter highlights the continued efforts by security agencies to maintain peace and order in the region. The operations involve detailed planning and execution to minimise collateral damage while ensuring the neutralization of militants. The Army’s statement underscored the precision and control exercised by the troops during the exchange of fire.

Further details regarding the identity of the eliminated terrorist and the specific group they belonged to are expected to be released by the authorities once the operation concludes and necessary formalities are completed. Security forces often conduct thorough investigations following such encounters to gather actionable intelligence. The presence of specific inputs before launching the operation points to the efficacy of the intelligence network operating in the region.
