Six schoolchildren sustained injuries on Wednesday morning when a speeding tractor-trolley, allegedly involved in illegal mining, collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in. The incident occurred in a village under the Sahaswan police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district.
Tractor Driver Apprehended After Hit-and-Run
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the driver of the tractor-trolley fled the scene immediately after the collision. However, police successfully apprehended the driver and the vehicle later. A case has been registered against the driver, and authorities are investigating the claims that the tractor-trolley was being used in illegal mining activities.
The accident took place at approximately 8:30 am. According to police reports, the tractor-trolley struck the school auto-rickshaw, causing the children inside to be thrown and injured. A police response vehicle and local law enforcement officers were dispatched to the location. The injured children were promptly transported to the Community Health Centre in Sahaswan for initial treatment.
Children Referred to District Hospital, All Out of Danger
Following their assessment at the community health centre, all six injured children were referred to the district hospital for further medical examination and care. Officials have confirmed that all the children are out of immediate danger and are recovering from their injuries. The names of the injured children have been identified by the Superintendent of Police (Rural), Hridesh Kumar Katheria, as Bhagwati (16), Kishanpal (13), Preeti Yadav (17), Nandkishore (12), Ramgopal (14), and Rajni (11). All are residents of Ibrahimpur Garhi village.
Bhagwati, Kishanpal, and Preeti Yadav sustained external injuries, while Nandkishore, Ramgopal, and Rajni suffered internal injuries. The collision highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the alleged involvement of vehicles in illegal mining operations in the region. Authorities have stated their commitment to thorough investigation into both the accident and the associated allegations of illegal mining.
