Security forces in south Kashmir have successfully averted a potential major terror incident with the recovery and subsequent destruction of an improvised explosive device (IED) in Shopian district.
The Chenab Times has learned that the operation was a joint effort between the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. It took place near Chitragam village in the Zainapora area of Shopian.
Officials reported that the recovered IED was substantial, weighing approximately 14.5 kilograms. It was found to be packed with high explosives and was equipped with a remote-controlled triggering mechanism, indicating a sophisticated attempt to cause significant harm.
A specialized bomb disposal squad was immediately called to the scene. They conducted a controlled explosion to safely neutralize the device, thereby preventing any loss of life or property.
The swift and coordinated action by the security forces is credited with foiling a possible terror attack in the region. The recovery highlights the persistent threats faced in the area and the ongoing efforts by security agencies to maintain peace and stability.
The incident underscores the critical role of intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation in counter-terrorism operations. Security forces remain vigilant to thwart any attempts to disrupt normalcy and create fear among the populace.
