Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir: Altaf Bukhari, President of the Apni Party, has appealed to the government to reconsider its decision to ban Dar-ul-Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom in Shopian, emphasizing the potential impact on thousands of students.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Bukhari took to his X handle to express concern over the administration’s action. He stated, “I urge the government to reconsider the ban on Dar-ul-Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom in Shopian. Thousands of students should not suffer for decisions beyond their control.” He highlighted that approximately 10,000 students rely on the institution for their education and future prospects.
In his public remarks, Bukhari noted that the institution has no record of producing individuals associated with violence, asserting that any such instances would be exceptional. He drew a parallel with other national institutions, including army schools, acknowledging that rare deviations can occur. Bukhari also pointed out that individuals formerly affiliated with the Jamaat-e-Islami had later established a political party, the Justice and Development Front, which was registered by the Election Commission of India. He questioned why students should face hardship if such a progression was previously permitted.
The Apni Party president advocated for a constructive approach to resolve the issue. He suggested the establishment of a dedicated management body to oversee the institution. This, he believes, would be a fair and practical measure to ensure the continuity of education for students without disruption. Bukhari cautioned that banning educational institutions could exacerbate feelings of alienation and grievances within the region.
He emphasized that the current situation necessitates bridging a trust deficit and implementing meaningful confidence-building measures to foster lasting peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. He argued that actions that disrupt educational continuity are counterproductive to achieving these goals.
