Residents of the Batmaloo locality in Srinagar have appealed for the immediate transfer of duties to the newly appointed Patwari, citing the prolonged vacancy and virtual inactivity of the Patwari office which has left local administrative processes stalled and residents facing significant hardship.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that a delegation representing the Halqa Batmaloo area approached the offices of a local daily on Tuesday to highlight the critical situation arising from the delayed assumption of charge by the newly posted revenue official. The delegation expressed deep concern over the state of affairs, stating that the absence of a functional authority at the Patwari office has rendered it defunct, impacting essential public services.
According to the residents, the previous Patwari was removed from his post, and subsequently, a new official was deputed to the area. However, the crucial handover of charge has reportedly not been completed to date, leading to a complete standstill in routine revenue-related work. “People are facing immense inconvenience as their cases remain pending at the Patwari office. From issuance of official documents to verification works, everything has been affected,” a member of the delegation stated.
The prolonged delay has exacerbated the difficulties faced by the local population, who were already experiencing delays in obtaining necessary services and certifications. “We fail to understand why the charge has not been handed over despite the posting of a new Patwari. The office is practically defunct,” another resident lamented, underscoring the growing frustration within the community.
The delegation has formally urged the concerned administrative authorities to intervene urgently and ensure that the incoming Patwari takes charge of his responsibilities at the earliest possible opportunity. The indefinite delay is causing considerable distress and disruption to the daily lives and administrative needs of the Batmaloo residents, who are now seeking swift administrative action to restore normalcy to the revenue office.
