Two individuals sought in connection with a firing incident in Karol Bagh have been apprehended by Delhi Police following a brief exchange of gunfire in the Kamla Market area. The arrests were made on the night of May 9 as part of an ongoing operation targeting organized crime.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the apprehended suspects have been identified as Deepanshu, 28, also known as Sahil Bouncer, and Avinash, 24. Both were reportedly wanted for a firing case registered at the Karol Bagh police station in April and had been evading law enforcement for a considerable period. Police indicated that other individuals allegedly linked to the same case, including Pankaj alias Mohit, Ajay alias Gunga, Montu, and Aakash, had been taken into custody previously.
Authorities reported that the operation was initiated based on a tip-off. A police team reportedly established a surveillance post near Turkman Road, close to Zakir Hussain College in Kamla Market. The information suggested that the two accused were expected to arrive at approximately 10 p.m. on a scooter, allegedly with the intention of targeting a member of a rival gang, identified as the Rohit alias Mota gang.
At around 10:20 p.m., the suspects were observed arriving on the scooter. Upon realizing they were being surrounded by law enforcement, they allegedly took cover behind their scooter and a nearby tree. According to police accounts, the suspects then commenced firing indiscriminately at the police party.
Police sources stated that the accused discharged four rounds of ammunition. One projectile reportedly struck the bulletproof jacket worn by Inspector Rohit Kumar. In response, the police team returned fire in self-defense, sustaining injuries to the legs of the accused before they could be subdued and taken into custody. Both Deepanshu and Avinash were subsequently transported to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for medical treatment under police supervision.
During the apprehension, law enforcement officials recovered one pistol with an attached magazine, a country-made firearm, three live cartridges, and ten spent cartridges from the scene. The scooter utilized by the accused was also impounded and subsequently found to have been stolen. An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Kamla Market police station, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain further details and potential accomplices.
Preliminary police inquiries revealed that Deepanshu, a resident of Karol Bagh and a school dropout, has a prior record involving robbery and other criminal offenses. Avinash, who holds a graduate degree, is also reported to have been involved in a previous robbery case.
