Jammu, May 25: Rakesh Bhalwal, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, has been appointed to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) within the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Bhalwal, who previously served in Jammu and Kashmir in a similar DIG capacity, will now take up his new assignment in the central paramilitary force. The appointment marks a significant elevation in his career within the national security apparatus.
Bhalwal, an officer known for his tenure in the Union Territory, has been instrumental in various law enforcement operations. His previous experience within Jammu and Kashmir is expected to be a valuable asset in his new role at the national level. The CRPF is a primary force engaged in maintaining internal security across India, combating insurgency and terrorism, and providing assistance to state police forces in maintaining law and order.
The appointment of senior IPS officers to central deputation in paramilitary forces is a routine process aimed at leveraging their expertise and experience in diverse operational environments. Such postings allow for cross-pollination of ideas and strategies between state police forces and central agencies, thereby strengthening the overall security framework of the country. Officers often gain broader perspectives on national security challenges during their tenures in central organizations.
The CRPF, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, plays a critical role in counter-insurgency operations, particularly in regions like Jammu and Kashmir and the Naxal-affected areas. The force is also deployed for election duties, disaster management, and VIP security. The elevation of officers like Bhalwal to higher ranks within the CRPF underscores the importance of their contributions to national security.
Details regarding Bhalwal’s specific responsibilities and the unit to which he will be assigned are expected to be released following his formal assumption of duties. His appointment is seen as a recognition of his service and leadership qualities. The officer’s career trajectory highlights the opportunities available for skilled police officers to contribute to national security at the highest levels.
