Jammu and Kashmir Govt Invites All Parties for Statehood Protest at Jantar Mantar

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has extended an invitation to all political parties to participate in a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, advocating for the restoration of the region’s statehood. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary announced the move on Wednesday, emphasizing that the demand for statehood is crucial for the identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Choudhary, speaking to reporters during a visit to Bandipora district, stated that the government hopes for broad support for the demand, which he believes transcends political affiliations and is intrinsically linked to the aspirations of the region’s populace.

“We have invited and appealed to all political parties to join our protest at Jantar Mantar in favour of the restoration of statehood. Let us see who comes and joins us,” Choudhary said, underscoring that the participation of various political groups would clarify their stance on the issue.

The Deputy Chief Minister also urged the central government to honour its commitment regarding the restoration of statehood. He recalled assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that statehood would be reinstated. Choudhary highlighted that the current administration has been actively working to address issues related to the mining sector over the past two years, suggesting that the previous mining policy implemented during the PDP-BJP coalition government had exacerbated unemployment and negatively impacted local interests.

Earlier in the day, Choudhary, accompanied by Sonawari MLA Advocate Hilal Akbar Lone, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sumbal Murtaza Ahmad, and other senior officials, undertook an inspection of several developmental projects in Bandipora district. Among the sites visited was the Naninara Bridge, where the progress of ongoing construction work was reviewed. Choudhary stressed the importance of completing these projects within stipulated timelines to enhance connectivity and accelerate developmental initiatives across the district.
