SRINAGAR, June 14: Three individuals from Haryana were killed and two others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident that occurred near Nagrota in Jammu district late Friday night. The incident took place on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The Chenab Times has learned that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep grief over the accident, extending his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and praying for the eternal peace of the departed souls. He also wished for a speedy recovery for those injured.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to ensure that the injured persons receive the best possible medical treatment and care. The accident happened during the intervening night of June 13 and June 14 near the Jagti-Karli area of Nagrota. Reports indicate that a car collided with a passenger bus, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
The victims have been identified as residents of Haryana. The authorities have initiated investigations into the cause of the collision. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is a critical artery connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India, and accidents, though infrequent, can have severe consequences due to the nature of the terrain and traffic volume.
The local administration has been actively working to improve road safety measures along the highway, which includes infrastructure upgrades and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. However, human error and sudden mechanical failures remain significant factors contributing to road accidents. Officials have emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits and ensuring vehicles are in good condition, particularly for long-distance travel.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in ensuring road safety across the region. Efforts by the government and law enforcement agencies continue to focus on reducing road fatalities through a combination of public awareness campaigns, improved road infrastructure, and enhanced emergency response services. The investigation into this specific accident will likely focus on the circumstances leading to the collision between the car and the passenger bus.
