New Delhi, Oct 31: The comprehensive Census-related fieldwork in the Union Territory of Ladakh has been successfully completed, marking the finalization of the District Census Handbook (DCHB) data. This development signifies the full completion of all census enumeration activities for the region.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Amit Sharma, Director of Census Operations for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, announced the culmination of the DCHB fieldwork on Saturday. The exercise encompassed all 244 villages and the two statutory towns of Leh and Kargil, achieving a remarkable 100 per cent coverage.
Sharma, who also holds the position of Chief Principal Census Officer for both Union Territories, stated that the entire census exercise in Ladakh has been concluded in every aspect. He highlighted that the population enumeration in Ladakh, a region predominantly covered by snow, had also been finished, with the DCHB fieldwork being the sole remaining component. The successful completion of this fieldwork on October 30 means that all Ladakh Census data is now fully available.
The Director further explained that the gathered data is now ready for subsequent stages of validation, evaluation, and final publication, adhering to the established procedural guidelines. He described the completion of the census fieldwork as a significant milestone in the ongoing preparations for the national Census 2027.
The District Census Handbook is a vital document that provides detailed information about the administrative and statistical profile of a district. It typically includes data on the geographical area, population, vital statistics, and other relevant socio-economic indicators. The comprehensive nature of the DCHB ensures that detailed demographic and administrative information is meticulously recorded and made available for policy-making and planning purposes.
The Census of India, conducted every ten years, is a crucial exercise that provides a demographic snapshot of the nation. The data collected forms the basis for numerous government initiatives, resource allocation, and electoral delimitation. The timely completion of fieldwork, especially in challenging terrains like Ladakh, underscores the administrative efforts to maintain the census schedule.
The successful completion of the DCHB fieldwork in Ladakh contributes to the overall readiness of the Census 2027, ensuring that comprehensive and up-to-date demographic information will be available for the Union Territory. This data will be instrumental in understanding the population dynamics and planning for future development in Ladakh.
