The number of fatalities from a series of powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela earlier this week has surpassed 900, with more than 3,300 people sustaining injuries, authorities announced Friday.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the latest figures were communicated by Jorge Rodriguez, the president of Venezuela’s National Assembly.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, and officials anticipate the death toll may continue to rise as many individuals are still believed to be trapped beneath debris. Families have reported loved ones missing and feared buried under the rubble.
Mr. Rodriguez described the ongoing efforts, stating, “Each person saved is a miracle.” The earthquakes, which have devastated several regions of the country, have prompted a significant national response focused on recovery and aid for affected communities.
The tremors have caused widespread destruction, leaving thousands homeless and infrastructure severely damaged. Emergency services are working to provide medical assistance and shelter to those displaced by the disaster.
