Mysuru, Karnataka – Mysuru Airport has implemented a new car parking management system, marking a significant step in enhancing passenger convenience and operational efficiency. The system was formally inaugurated by P. V. Ushakumari, Airport Director, in the presence of Raman Sharma, AGM (ATC), and Damu D., Senior Manager (Engineering – Civil).
Enhanced Parking Management Introduced
The introduction of this new system aims to streamline the parking process for travelers using the Mandakalli Airport. Previously, parking facilities at Mysuru Airport, while functional, operated under a more traditional setup. Information available indicates that parking fees for two-wheelers ranged from ₹20 to ₹40 per day, and for cars, from ₹100 to ₹200 per day. The airport, which primarily serves domestic flights and operates under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, had a single open lot for parking.
The new system is expected to bring a more organized approach to vehicle management within the airport premises. While specific details of the new system’s technology are not yet public, such implementations typically involve automated ticketing, electronic payment options, and potentially real-time space availability information. The upgrade aligns with broader efforts to improve airport infrastructure and services, as noted by the Airport Authority of India’s continuous development initiatives across its facilities.
Mysuru Airport, located about 10 kilometers from the city center, handles a modest volume of traffic, largely connecting to Bengaluru and other regional destinations. The airport’s capacity has been gradually enhanced over the years, including an increase in parking bases and widening of the runway safety area, as part of infrastructure upgrade projects. The introduction of an automated parking system is a logical progression in modernizing the airport’s amenities to meet the evolving needs of passengers.
The airport’s development has been a focus, with past efforts including increasing parking capacity and improving the runway and its safety zones. The move towards a more sophisticated parking system is anticipated to reduce waiting times, improve security, and potentially offer more flexible payment options for users. This initiative is part of a continuous effort to upgrade the passenger experience at Mysuru Airport, making travel smoother for those flying in and out of the ‘Palace City’.
