Delhi Police have dismantled an alleged interstate syndicate involved in facilitating cheating in government recruitment examinations, leading to the arrest of seven individuals, including the purported kingpin. Authorities recovered sophisticated electronic devices designed to transmit answers to candidates during exams.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged on July 26 by the Central Sanskrit University. The complaint detailed the use of unfair means during the Lower Division Clerk (LDC) recruitment examination conducted at Kendriya Vidyalaya, C-2, Janakpuri.
During an inspection at the examination centre, officials apprehended two candidates, Aarti and Hemant, for utilizing electronic aids. Aarti was found in possession of a customized mobile phone, while Hemant was carrying a Bluetooth device integrated with a SIM card and nano earpieces.
An FIR was subsequently registered at the Janakpuri police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act. The electronic devices seized from the candidates were also confiscated.
Interrogation of Hemant revealed that his brother, Rinku, had procured the Bluetooth device and SIM card from an individual named Virender for a sum of ₹12 lakh. This arrangement was intended to allow Hemant to receive answers from outside the examination hall. Both Rinku and Virender were subsequently arrested by the police.
Investigators further learned that Aarti had obtained a customized mobile phone, Bluetooth device, SIM card, and nano earpieces from her friend, Sanni, for ₹10 lakh. Sanni, who was also arrested, implicated Deepak, with whom a deal worth ₹8 lakh had been finalized to facilitate cheating.
Through a combination of technical surveillance, social media analysis, and local intelligence gathering, law enforcement traced and apprehended Deepak. He reportedly confessed to operating under the directives of Sonu Kumar, also known as Sonu Maan, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the entire operation.
Subsequent surveillance efforts led the police to the Dadri Bypass Road in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. There, Sonu Maan was apprehended while allegedly orchestrating cheating in another government recruitment examination. A tablet connected to a foreign WhatsApp account, a customized mobile phone, multiple Bluetooth devices, nano earpieces, other mobile phones, and various documents were recovered from his possession.
According to police statements, Sonu Maan is employed as a fireman with the Chandigarh Fire Department. He is accused of procuring and distributing customized electronic devices, obtaining leaked question papers, preparing answers, and transmitting them to candidates through a network of agents.
The syndicate’s operations involved Sanni, identified as a laboratory attendant at Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi, who allegedly acted as an agent by identifying potential candidates and connecting them with the syndicate. Deepak is said to have been responsible for recruiting candidates and facilitating the use of electronic devices for cheating.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities aiming to identify further members of the syndicate, trace financial transactions, and determine their potential involvement in similar examination malpractice cases across various states.
