The body of an 18-year-old youth, Ankit, who was carried away by rainwater in a drain in southeast Delhi’s Priyanka Camp area, was recovered from the Agra canal on Sunday. The recovery followed a significant search operation involving rescue teams.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Ankit, a resident of Bhim Colony, was located during a coordinated effort by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority and the Delhi Fire Services. The incident occurred on Friday evening amidst heavy rainfall near the Priyanka Camp ‘nullah’ in Madanpur Khadar, under the jurisdiction of Sarita Vihar police station.
According to police accounts, Ankit was returning home from Noida with a friend, Manish, when he lost his footing while attempting to cross the drain. The strong current of the rainwater then swept him away. Upon receiving a PCR call detailing the incident, search operations were immediately initiated by the authorities.
The search operation continued until the body was eventually found in the Agra canal. This incident highlights the dangers posed by overflowing drains and water bodies during monsoon seasons, particularly in urban areas with inadequate infrastructure.
