According to official statements from the police, Khawaja has been the subject of multiple complaints lodged by traders from various parts of the Kashmir Valley. These complaints detail allegations of financial fraud and deception through impersonation. The police confirmed that several cases have already been registered against the accused at different police stations, indicating a pattern of alleged criminal activity.

Among the previously registered cases are FIR No. 76/2022, filed under Section 430 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Kothibagh, and FIR No. 83/2023, registered under Sections 201, 379, 416, and 430 of the IPC at Police Station Pulwama. Authorities further revealed that Khawaja had previously been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA). This detention was reportedly due to his alleged continued involvement in criminal activities, underscoring the seriousness with which his actions were viewed by law enforcement prior to his current arrest.

The arrest is part of an ongoing effort by Srinagar Police to curb financial crimes and bring perpetrators of fraud to justice. Investigators are currently working to uncover the full extent of Khawaja’s network and determine if he was involved in other instances of fraud not yet reported or linked to his previous cases. The police have stated that further investigation is underway to identify any accomplices and ascertain the complete scope of his alleged criminal enterprise.
