Jammu, August 16: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday assured the residents of Jammu and Kashmir that there is no cause for worry regarding attempts to disrupt peace in the Union Territory, emphasizing the unwavering commitment of the administration and security forces to maintain tranquility.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Lieutenant Governor Sinha made these remarks while addressing a gathering of displaced Kashmiri Pandits who had raised concerns about the security of Pandit employees in the Kashmir Valley in light of recent militant activities.
During the annual-day function of the Kashmiri Pandit Volunteers (KPV) held in Jammu, Sinha acknowledged the presence of numerous challenges, stating, “There are many challenges, including the one you mentioned. But I believe there are even bigger challenges that we have to address.” He highlighted the shift in perception regarding national sentiment in the region, noting that the past challenge was the notion that the national flag would not be welcomed. “But you have seen today that there are so many shoulders — and such strong shoulders — ready to carry the tricolour. What you have witnessed today is a powerful example of that change,” he remarked.
Addressing the recent militant incidents aimed at disturbing the peaceful atmosphere, the Lieutenant Governor conceded that such efforts are ongoing. However, he urged the public against panic. “Attempts are being made to disturb the atmosphere again. There is no need to worry. The necessary concerns are being addressed, and this has not started today, such efforts have been underway for some time,” Sinha stated. He also cautioned against the spread of rumors, assuring the attendees that the administration and security forces are fully dedicated to preserving peace. “Anyone who attempts to disrupt the prevailing peace will not be allowed to succeed in their designs,” he asserted.
Responding to a demand from a Kashmiri Pandit leader for an increase in relief measures, the Lieutenant Governor indicated that the government is actively pursuing resolutions. “I would like to say, with a full sense of responsibility, that efforts have been made to find a solution and these efforts are continuing,” he said. He further elaborated that while some issues can be resolved promptly, others may require more time, but continuous efforts are being made to address all matters expeditiously.
The Lieutenant Governor’s address followed an appeal by Vikram Kaul, the founder of KPV. Kaul had urged the administration and the Lieutenant Governor to refrain from restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, citing prevailing security concerns and challenges within the Union Territory. He also advocated for an enhancement in monthly relief and the provision of long-term security assurances for Kashmiri Pandit employees working in the valley, particularly in the context of recent militant attacks.
The KPV’s annual-day function provided a platform for displaced Kashmiri Pandits to articulate their concerns directly to the administration, seeking assurances and concrete actions to ensure their safety and well-being in the region. The Lieutenant Governor’s statements aimed to allay fears and reinforce the administration’s resolve in combating militancy and maintaining law and order.
