Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir – Thousands of devotees gathered at the Dargah Hazratbal for night-long prayers and religious observances on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. The revered shrine, situated on the banks of the Dal Lake, saw massive crowds filling its lawns and courtyards from the evening onwards. Worshippers engaged in continuous prayers, Quranic recitations, and devotional songs throughout the night. Many attendees described the experience as one of spiritual solace and a way to feel closer to the Prophet.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the celebrations extended beyond Hazratbal, with mosques, khanqahs, and other shrines across Jammu and Kashmir also echoing with sermons and prayers. Religious scholars highlighted the Prophet’s teachings, emphasizing compassion and peace. Devotees also had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Prophet’s holy relic after pre-dawn prayers and at subsequent prayer times throughout the day.
The observance of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, which falls on the 12th of Rabi ul Awal in the Islamic calendar, saw a significant turnout despite potentially chilly weather conditions. Families traveled from various parts of Kashmir to participate in the congregational prayers. While the official holiday was declared on a specific date, the religious observance followed the lunar calendar, leading to some administrative discrepancies. Senior leaders have voiced concerns regarding the rescheduling of holidays, highlighting the sentiments of the local Muslim population.
The event at Hazratbal was managed with additional staff deployed to ensure the safety and orderly flow of devotees. Health teams were also stationed outside the shrine to provide assistance. The celebrations serve as a significant religious and cultural event for the region, drawing large numbers of faithful seeking spiritual fulfillment and community connection.
