Delhi is set to undergo a significant transformation over the next six months, with plans to introduce themed gateways at its major entry points and a comprehensive beautification drive for roundabouts across the city. This initiative aims to enhance the city’s visual appeal and create a more engaging experience for visitors and residents alike.
Themed Entry Points
Thirteen major entry points into the capital will be redesigned to reflect the identity, geography, and history of the adjoining regions. These themed gateways will serve as a distinctive ‘sense of arrival,’ drawing inspiration from the cultural and historical context of connecting cities such as Gurugram and Noida. The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation will spearhead this project, focusing on creating unique narratives at each entry point to tell a different story and enhance the commuter experience.
City-Wide Roundabout Beautification
In parallel, roundabouts throughout Delhi will be revitalized through landscaping, the introduction of plants, and decorative installations. This aspect of the makeover is designed to improve the overall aesthetics of public areas and make them more visually appealing. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the city’s urban landscape and create more welcoming public spaces.
Public-Private Partnerships for Urban Enhancement
Further contributing to the city’s facelift, the Delhi government has entered into Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with private entities to redevelop and beautify spaces beneath several flyovers. Companies such as Dalmia Bharat Limited, Godrej Industries Group, and EaseMyTrip Foundation are partnering with the Public Works Department (PWD) under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These collaborations aim to transform neglected spaces under flyovers into vibrant, functional areas featuring green zones, murals, improved sanitation, and seating arrangements.
Specific flyover stretches identified for this redevelopment include those at Oberoi, Lodhi, and Mangi Setu by Dalmia Bharat Limited; Apsara Border and Mayur Vihar Phase-1 by EaseMyTrip Foundation; and Netaji Subhash Place by Godrej Industries Group. A notable feature of the Mangi Setu redevelopment will be a Ramayana-themed visual journey through murals.
This multi-faceted approach, combining themed gateways, roundabout beautification, and the transformation of under-flyover spaces, signifies a concerted effort by the Delhi government to elevate the city’s infrastructure and aesthetic appeal within the next six months. The projects aim not only to improve the visual experience but also to create safer, more functional, and community-friendly urban environments.
