Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi for a significant visit aimed at strengthening India’s economic and strategic partnerships with the United Arab Emirates. The visit is the first leg of a broader five-nation tour designed to enhance bilateral relations amidst evolving global geopolitical dynamics.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that upon entering UAE airspace, Prime Minister Modi’s aircraft was escorted by F-16 jets. He was subsequently accorded a guard of honour at the airport.
During his stop in Abu Dhabi, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold high-level strategic discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Key areas of focus for these talks include energy cooperation, the development of digital infrastructure, and the expansion of bilateral trade between the two nations.
This engagement forms part of Prime Minister Modi’s extensive six-day foreign tour, which will also include visits to the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy. The overarching objective of these diplomatic engagements is to further deepen India’s bilateral ties with these countries and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration.
Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, highlighted the continuous growth of the India-UAE partnership, noting that both nations are now setting an ambitious target of USD 200 billion in bilateral trade. This follows the successful surpassing of the initial USD 100 billion milestone achieved under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Al Hashimy further elaborated on the expanding relationship, stating that India and the UAE have consistently identified and unlocked new areas for cooperation by working collaboratively as “Team India and Team UAE.” She described the CEPA, which was signed a few years prior, as a landmark agreement that not only enabled the two countries to exceed their initial trade targets but also established a robust foundation for broader and more comprehensive collaboration across various sectors.
