Mentally Ill Youth Kills Sister, Two Goats, Pet Dog in Punjab’s Tarn Taran Village

A shocking incident unfolded in Sabhra village of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, where a young man, reportedly struggling with mental illness, allegedly bludgeoned his sister, two goats, and the family’s pet dog to death with a spade.

The Chenab Times has learned that the deceased, Sandeep Kaur, a married woman and mother of two from the nearby Toot village, had visited her parental home to check on the condition of her brother, Rasal Singh, who had been experiencing a prolonged period of mental distress.

According to Mukhtiar Singh, the father of the accused and the victim, the situation inside the house escalated rapidly following an argument. In a fit of rage, Rasal Singh is alleged to have first attacked the family’s pet dog and two goats before turning his attention to his sister. Their mother sustained severe injuries when she attempted to intervene and protect her daughter.

The brutal act has sent ripples of shock through the village community. Neighbours have described the family as being deeply affected by the son’s declining mental health. Residents stated that Sandeep Kaur frequently visited her parents, offering support and assistance in managing her brother during his difficult episodes.

“She came here out of concern for her brother and parents. Nobody imagined this would happen,” a villager recounted, expressing the community’s disbelief and sorrow.

Following the alleged assault, Rasal Singh reportedly wandered through the village brandishing the blood-stained spade. This act instilled panic among the residents, causing many to retreat into their homes out of fear for their safety.

Authorities from the Patti Sadar police station were promptly alerted and arrived at the scene to commence their investigation. The accused has been taken into police custody as officials work to reconstruct the events leading up to the tragic incident and determine the precise circumstances surrounding the attack.

The incident underscores the profound challenges faced by families dealing with mental health crises, and the devastating consequences that can arise when such conditions are not adequately managed or supported. The local police are expected to provide further details as their investigation progresses.
