Srinagar: Two artisans from Jammu and Kashmir have been recognized with the prestigious National Handloom Award, presented by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. The award celebrates their exceptional contributions to the region’s rich handloom heritage.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Manzoor Ahmad Hajam and Fayaz Ahmad Wani were honoured for their exquisite craftsmanship in weaving the traditional Chanddar Kani Shawl. The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, extended his congratulations to the artisans, highlighting their achievement as a testament to the enduring legacy and artistic excellence of Jammu and Kashmir’s handloom sector.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting local artisans. This includes efforts to empower them, preserve the region’s traditional crafts, and promote indigenous artistry on both national and international stages.
