Amritsar, Punjab – The Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) and its affiliated institutions celebrated the Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib with a comprehensive kirtan darbar held at Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School on GT Road, Amritsar.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the event featured a rich tapestry of devotional music, with performances by various kirtani groups and student ensembles. The kirtani jatha of Bhai Gurdeep Singh Saluja, alongside a student kirtan band, led the proceedings with shabad and kirtan. This was followed by devotional renditions from the Ragi Jatha of Central Khalsa Orphanage, the kirtani jatha of Bibi Prabhjot Kaur, and other Gurmat Sangeet teachers, all of whom aimed to connect the congregation with the divine teachings of Gurbani.
Further enhancing the spiritual atmosphere, Bhai Guriqbal Singh, representing the kirtani jatha of Bibi Kaulan Ji Welfare Centre, Bhai Shakeen Singh, a Hazoori Ragi of Darbar Sahib, and various kirtani teams composed of students from different Chief Khalsa Diwan schools presented Gurbani Kirtan. Their collective performances showcased traditional string instruments known as tanti saaz, adding a classical dimension to the devotional music.
Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar, president of the Chief Khalsa Diwan, articulated the organization’s core mission. He stated that a primary objective is to foster a generation that achieves academic excellence while maintaining a strong connection to their heritage. This includes encouraging an understanding of modern technology alongside a grounding in Gurbani, and aspiring to positions of distinction with humility. Dr. Nijjar emphasized that this success should be channeled not just for personal advancement but for the broader service of society and humanity.
He further elaborated on the Chief Khalsa Diwan’s dedicated efforts to introduce children to the traditional Sikh kirtan tradition, Gurmat Sangeet, and the use of traditional string instruments. The event also served as a platform to honor meritorious students who have demonstrated exceptional academic and artistic achievements.
Among the distinguished awardees was Japjit Kaur, a student of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, GT Road, who achieved first position in Punjab, topping the CBSE examinations in the medical stream. Rishank Sharma from the Majitha Road Bypass school was recognized for securing third position in Punjab in the non-medical stream. Additionally, Riya Rani, a Class X student from CKD Hoshiarpur school, and Shabad Arora, a student from the Majitha Road Bypass school, were honored for their notable achievements in the field of Gurmat Sangeet at the state level. These recognitions underscore the CKD’s commitment to holistic development, encouraging students to excel in academics and cultural pursuits.
