A 29-year-old police officer lost his life early on Monday morning when the car he was driving veered off the Mahilpur-Phagwara road and struck a tree near Bharta Ganeshpur village.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the deceased has been identified as Mandeep Singh, a resident of Thuana village in the Mahilpur area. Mandeep Singh was reportedly returning home after completing his official duties and was posted at Jahan Khelan.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:40 am. Preliminary reports suggest that the vehicle may have hit steps on the road before colliding with the tree. The impact caused the car to overturn onto the opposite side of the carriageway.
Mandeep Singh sustained severe injuries in the collision. He was transported by ambulance to the Civil Hospital in Mahilpur, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The Mahilpur police were promptly alerted and arrived at the scene to commence their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities are examining the site and collecting evidence to ascertain the precise cause of the accident.
