New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has announced that the Indian government is undertaking significant reforms aimed at completely eradicating paper leaks and unfair practices in public examinations, ensuring a transparent, secure, and trustworthy system for the nation’s youth.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that President Murmu, addressing the nation on the eve of the 80th Independence Day, emphasized the crucial role of students as the future architects of India. She drew a parallel between the government and society’s united efforts for national security and the collective responsibility required to safeguard the present and future of students through joint and concerted actions.
Strengthening Examination Integrity
The President highlighted that public examinations serve as crucial gateways to opportunities for students across the country. She stated that the government is committed to reforming these examinations with the primary objectives of eliminating unfair means, enhancing transparency, bolstering security, and building greater trust in the examination system for the benefit of the youth. These pronouncements come at a time when nationwide student-led protests have been demanding systemic overhauls and stricter legal actions following high-profile paper leak incidents in competitive examinations.
Fostering Entrepreneurship and Youth Development
President Murmu also commended the spirit of enterprise among young Indians, noting an increasing trend towards job creation rather than solely seeking employment. She pointed to the significant contribution of young entrepreneurs in establishing a robust start-up ecosystem, which has garnered global recognition. Indian youth are increasingly being entrusted with leadership roles in major global enterprises, enhancing the country’s reputation for its dynamic young workforce.
The President underscored the importance of holistic development, emphasizing that the physical and mental well-being of the youth are foundational to the nation’s future. She highlighted the role of families and society in motivating young individuals. Under the ‘Khelo India’ initiative, a comprehensive sports ecosystem is being developed from the grassroots to the national level, with unprecedented investments aimed at promoting sports and improving the performance of Indian athletes in international tournaments.
National Security and Internal Stability
Addressing national security, President Murmu lauded the unmatched valour of the Indian Armed Forces. She referenced Operation Sindoor as an example of the nation’s capability to conduct precision counter-terrorism operations, sending a clear message that militant elements and their supporters will face consequences irrespective of their hiding places. The President also noted the historic observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and the commemoration of Operation Sindoor, reaffirming India’s resolve in overcoming forces hostile to humanity.
Furthermore, she pointed to strategic foreign policy decisions, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with a nation accused of harbouring terror networks, as a decisive step taken in the nation’s interest. Internally, the eradication of Naxalism was described as a monumental achievement after decades of struggle, with areas previously affected by it now experiencing renewed enthusiasm due to inclusive development efforts and active local participation in initiatives like the Bastar Olympics.
Civilisational Heritage and Global Engagement
President Murmu highlighted India’s rich civilisational heritage, noting the UNESCO World Heritage listing of Sarnath, the site of Lord Buddha’s first sermon, and the previous year’s listing of 12 Maratha military forts. She affirmed India’s commitment to balancing its spiritual heritage with symbols of military strength and resilience.
In its foreign policy, India adheres to the principles of peace, dialogue, cooperation, and the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family). The nation advocates for a rules-based international order and strives for appropriate representation of the global community in multilateral organizations like the United Nations, underscoring India’s growing influence among Global South nations.
Socio-Economic Progress and Empowerment
The address also touched upon the welfare of senior citizens, with initiatives providing free healthcare services up to Rs 5 lakh annually to approximately six crore citizens aged 70 and above. The nation is steadily progressing towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, driven by economic resilience, advanced digital infrastructure, and empowered youth and women.
Significant socio-economic milestones were also highlighted, including over 25 crore people lifted out of poverty, nearly 59 crore bank account holders under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (with over 32 crore being women), and ensured food security for more than 80 crore people through free rations. India’s technological prowess was showcased through its development of the world’s largest digital infrastructure, handling over half of global real-time digital transactions.
The demographic dividend was emphasized, with 65 percent of the population below 35 years of age, referred to as India’s most valuable asset. Young entrepreneurs and innovators are driving a robust startup ecosystem, exemplified by recent space exploration achievements led by young teams. Women’s empowerment remains a central theme, with the achievement of creating three crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and efforts to empower more. The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,’ reserving 33 percent of seats for women in legislative bodies, was noted as a step towards more inclusive democracy.
On sustainable development, India is leading globally in environmental protection, having achieved several UN Sustainable Development Goals ahead of schedule. The President urged citizens to remain committed to preserving nature and human values, linking individual actions to national initiatives like ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ and ‘Lifestyle for Environment’ (LiFE).
President Murmu paid homage to freedom fighters and leaders who integrated princely states, and remembered those affected by the partition. She concluded by invoking a quote on the essence of a nation being its people, urging every citizen to contribute wholeheartedly to transforming India into a fully developed nation by 2047.
