Jammu and Kashmir Witnesses Joyful Tiranga Yatra Amidst Shifting Security Landscape

SRINAGAR, Aug 15: The national flag, the Tricolour, is now prominently displayed on Kurregutta Hills, a former stronghold of militant activities, and across Jammu and Kashmir, where its hoisting once invited apprehension, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Saturday. He marked the occasion of Independence Day by highlighting the significant shift in the region’s security narrative, emphasizing patriotism over past conflict.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Union Home Minister, in a series of posts on the social media platform X, elaborated on the celebratory atmosphere surrounding Independence Day. He described Kurregutta Hills as a place where the echoes of patriotism have replaced the sounds of gunfire, symbolizing the strength, progress, and self-assurance of a new Bastar, now free from militant influence. The Bastar Tiranga Yatra, a three-day event spanning approximately 600 kilometres through areas historically considered Maoist strongholds, concluded on Friday with the unfurling of the national flag atop Kurregutta hills in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. This event marks a significant moment in the region’s ongoing transformation.

The motorcycle procession for the Tiranga Yatra was led by Chhattisgarh’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma and Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap. They were accompanied by a diverse group including public representatives, local residents, and community leaders. The journey culminated at Kurregutta, a hill range situated on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, which had long been identified as a strategic hideout for Maoist elements and the site of extensive counter-militant operations by security forces. The successful culmination of the Yatra on these hills signifies a symbolic reclaiming of territory and a demonstration of renewed national presence.

In parallel, Mr. Shah also commented on the Tiranga Yatra held in Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that millions of people participated in waving the national flag with immense joy and pride. He underscored that Jammu and Kashmir has navigated a transformative path from an environment of fear to one of freedom, largely attributed to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Union Home Minister pointed out the stark contrast between the past, when hoisting the Tricolour could elicit threats, and the present, where Jammu and Kashmir hosts large-scale Tiranga Yatras, signifying a profound change in public sentiment and security dynamics.

The events highlight a broader national effort to assert sovereignty and foster a sense of unity across diverse regions of India. In Jammu and Kashmir, the increased visibility and celebratory participation in national flag-related events are being interpreted by authorities as indicators of returning normalcy and deepening integration with the rest of the country. Security forces remain vigilant, continuing their efforts to ensure peace and stability throughout the Union Territory. The government’s focus remains on development and ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens.
