Police in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir have attached a two-storey residential house as part of ongoing efforts against drug trafficking. The action was taken under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the property belongs to Noor Mohd Dar, son of Mohammad Ismail Dar, a resident of Hapatnar in the Charar-i-Shareif area. The attachment falls under Section 68-F(1) of the NDPS Act.
This action is linked to a case registered at the Charar-i-Shareif Police Station under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act. The case involves offences pertaining to the illegal possession, transportation, and trafficking of narcotic substances.
A police spokesperson stated that the Budgam police are continuing their sustained campaign against the menace of drugs and the financial networks that support narcotics-related activities. The attachment of the residential property is a step in this direction.
The spokesperson further clarified that as per the law, the owner of the attached property is now prohibited from selling, transferring, leasing, mortgaging, or otherwise creating any third-party interest in the property without obtaining permission from the competent authority.
The NDPS Act provides authorities with powers to attach properties derived from or used in illegal drug activities. The objective is to dismantle the financial infrastructure of drug syndicates and prevent the illicit trade from flourishing. Such actions aim to disrupt the economic gains of individuals involved in drug trafficking and send a strong message about the consequences of engaging in such activities.
