Forest Rights Committee constituted in all 237 panchayats of Doda

Total 3247 members nominated for FRC's including Chairperson's and Secretaries

To ensure the proper implementation of the Forest Rights Act in the district, and to recognise the rights of forest dwellers (ST/OTFD) on ancestral lands and their habitat, the district Doda taking the lead has successfully completed the first level exercise by constituting the Forest Rights Committees at Panchayat level.

Having the great importance and fundamentally powerful position at the grassroot level, the FRCs shall act as the executive body of the Gram sabha of the panchayat, adding to this today in all 237 panchayats of the district, the FRCs have been constituted in all 17 blocks.

Acting upon the directions of Deputy Commissioner Doda Dr Sagar D Doifode, the officials of the RDD Doda today have conducted the gram sabha’s across the district and have successfully formulated the FRCs including the Chairperson’s and Secretaries.

It has been given out that the Committee shall have not less than ten and not exceeding fifteen persons with two third members from scheduled tribes & not less than one third women members. Adding to this the newly constituted FRCs have also nominated a chairperson and a secretary.

Further it has been informed that the PRI members including Panchs, Sarpanches, BDC Chairperson’s and newly elected DDC members also participated in the Gram sabha’s,and also aware the locals about the various measures/guidelines and importance of the act.
