The Chenab Times is a news website that aims to broaden the community’s worldview, provide a forum for debate, and give our peers a voice.
Content
The editors reserve the right to make any and all editorial decisions regarding newspaper content (with final decisions belonging to the editor-in-chief).
Community storey ideas are welcome, but coverage is not guaranteed.
The Chenab Times staff reserves the right to define article parameters based on relevance, timeliness, and significance.
Timeliness
Online stories must be published as soon as possible.
Significance
The editors reserve the right to distinguish between important topics that the community should read.
To avoid bias, staff involved in a particular organisation or event will not write the article about it.
Online
The Chenab Times website (thechenabtimes.com) is managed by The Chenab Times staff, and all content posted is objective unless specifically labelled “Opinion” or “Editorial.” Opinions expressed in those stories are those of the author, not The Chenab Times staff. The Chenab Times’ Style Guide will be followed for formatting. Anyone wishing to repost an article must obtain permission from the Editor-in-Chief and must include a link to the original article on thechenabtimes.com.
Accepted articles/article ideas:
- Extended versions of print articles
- Media-focused stories
- Events where the timeline does not fall within the printing schedule
- Op-ed’s, columns, etc.
- Entertainment articles following local culture of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pitching Stories
All storey ideas promoting upcoming or recurring events will be forwarded to our advertising department. (See also Advertising.)
When pitching storey ideas to The Chenab Times, there must be an angle to the storey, something that distinguishes it or makes it unique.
Questions that must be answered:
- Why should we care NOW?
- Is it new?
- Is it unusual?
- Is there a human interest angle?
- Is there a trend?
Story Screening
Without permission from the Editor-in-Chief, the Chenab Times staff is not permitted to screen any stories before they are published.
Editorials
All editorials are written from the writer’s point of view and do not reflect the views of The Chenab Times.
Columnists/Writers
The content of columns is assumed to be the columnists’ opinions, not necessarily the editors’.
The cartoons’ content is also assumed to be the cartoonists’ opinions, not necessarily the editors’.
While the editors respect the columnists’ and cartoonists’ right to express their opinions, the editors will apply the same editorial standards to the columns and cartoons as they do to the rest of the website.
Letters to the editor are appropriate vehicles for expressing one’s opinion on occasion; a regular column or cartoon is a privileged forum available to those willing to commit themselves.
Bylines
All articles and photographs will carry a byline.
Errors
All factual errors brought to The Chenab Times’ attention will be corrected in same article of the website.
Advertising
Content
To protect readers from misleading claims, maintain a high degree of journalistic integrity, and adhere to The Chenab Times’ Editorial Policy, The Chenab Times maintains the right to refuse advertising. In light of this, The Chenab Times does not allow advertising that insults either sex; contains sexist, racial, personal, or religious insults; makes inflated or deceptive offers; is of odd layout size; or appears to be mistaken with regular news material. The Chenab Times does not accept advertisements for term paper or research services, dating personal ads, or political campaigns supporting or backing a specific candidate.

Payment
Advertisers with past due accounts may have their adverts removed from publication by The Chenab Times.
If an ad order for a series of discounted consecutive advertising is cancelled after a certain number of advertisements have been published the ad price reverts to the flat rate.
Legal Responsibility
By posting an ad, the advertiser undertakes to accept all legal responsibility for the advertisement and to indemnify and keep The Chenab Times harmless from all claims, lawsuits, judgements, legal expenses, and costs incurred as a result of the advertisement or in enforcing this agreement.
