Continuing the special drive against drug peddlers, manufacturing and selling of illicit liquor and other criminal activities, Doda Police have also launched a special drive against opium cultivators in District Doda.
In a statement issued to The Chenab Times, police said that a case FIR No. 54/2022 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Doda on the receipt of information through reliable sources that some formers in the Babore area of Doda are cultivating the poppy/opium on their land. The investigation into the case has been started and a team from Police Station Doda led by Inspr. Arun Prakash, SHO P/S Doda, assisted by SI Mohd. Shafi, swung into action to book the people involved in the illegal cultivation of poppy and opium.
The police informed us that as per section 8 of the NDPS Act, No one is permitted to cultivate the opium poppy or any cannabis plant.
Doda Police has warned the farmers to desist from such illegal or banned cultivation, or else stringent action will be taken if any landowner is found involved in such illegal cultivation.
