In the upper parts of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, where severe hailstorms have damaged crops, fruits and vegetables, strong winds have blown off the roofs of dozens of buildings and severely damaged trees, plants and the power transmission system.
According to reports reaching The Chenab Times, heavy hail and strong winds continued intermittently in several areas of Bhaderwah, Thathri and Gandoh of Doda district on Thursday and Friday afternoon, as a result of which the roofs of many residential houses were blown off while a large number of fruits fell, vegetables and crops were damaged.
Around 200 buildings were damaged, including 182 residential houses and 18 other buildings, including mosques, temples, schools etc.
Meanwhile, the power transmission system has also been affected due to how many villages are in complete darkness.
Raja Irfan, managing editor of Chenab Times, who belongs to the Bhalessa area, said that about a dozen structures were partially or completely damaged due to strong winds.
He said that poor people could hardly put tin sheets on their houses, but unfortunately, they too fell due to stormy winds. He further said that the farmers and landlords are already worried about the future, while for the last two days, severe hailstorms and strong winds have damaged the structure as well as crops, fruits, and vegetables.
Locals have demanded the district and local administration to send special teams to the affected areas to assess the losses and provide adequate financial assistance to the victims.
