A historic event that shook the foundations of the then-oppressive power system occurred on July 13, 1931, the anniversary of which was marked by the martyrdom of 22 brave people who were protesting the tyranny of the autocracy, according to a statement from PAGD.
“This unprecedented incident proved out to be a turning point in the lengthy struggle for justice by the people. Thus, it signalled the start of Kashmir’s widespread awakening. People who opposed the dictatorial government were horrified and enraged by the brutal executions of protestors, it added, according to Kashmir Life report.
They “no longer looked down upon themselves as born bondmen and they began to walk erect with their heads raised and refused to be easily bullied by an official or an outsider,” according to the renowned Kashmiri Pandit freedom fighter and writer Prem Nath Bazaz.
According to the statement, the uprising against the dictatorship and autocratic ruler built a solid foundation for bringing the people together and rising above personal interests. This culminated in the beginning of a process of their empowerment.
The greatest sacrifices made by the martyrs brought about a new era in the area.
People cannot be silenced for very long, according to the PAGD statement, “despite brazen assault on legitimate constitutional rights and suppression of civil liberties, democratic rights, restricting the media, indiscriminate arrests of political activists and youth under draconian laws like UAPA, PSA.” “Despite grand promises of development, investment, and job creation, the region’s economy is getting worse. The reality is that J&K, the former state, is far behind. Daily gamblers, contractual workers, casual labourers, scheme workers, and others are either not receiving their wages on time or are being completely denied their dues instead of establishing new job prospects.
All sections within our population, as well as our communities and regions, have been urged by PAGD to band together in support of a brighter future and a decent existence. The only alternative, and thus the true memorial to these heroic victims, is United Voice.
