Jammu and Kashmir Police have reportedly arrested two associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit along with arms and ammunition in Pattan area of Baramulla district on Tuesday.
According to a police spokesperson, the arrests were made based on reliable information, and a joint team of forces busted a militant module in Pattan by apprehending Farooq Ahmad Parra and Saima Bashir of Sopore.
“On their disclosure, arms and ammunition including one pistol, 2 pistol magazines, 5 pistol rounds, IED and one remote control IED weighing approximately 2 kg were also recovered,” the spokesperson said in a statement quoted by news agency KNO.
Further investigations revealed that the duo was allegedly working with active LeT militant Abid Qayoom Lone of Wussan Pattan, the spokesperson added.
A case under sections of Arms and ULA (P) Act has been registered in Police Station Pattan and investigation is underway, the statement said.
The arrests come amid heightened security measures in the region, following a surge in militant activities in recent months. The J&K Police have been carrying out frequent raids to foil any attempts by the militants to carry out attacks.
