In the early hours of today, a seismic event measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale rumbled through the Kohistan area of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to data released by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The earthquake’s epicenter was pinpointed at a depth of 129 kilometers beneath the surface, with geographic coordinates at latitude 35.46 and longitude 73.32.
Residents of Jammu and Kashmir, a region in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, also felt the tremors as the seismic waves traveled across the border. The earthquake struck at precisely 8:36 am IST, causing momentary disruption and raising concerns among local residents.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or damage to property thus far. Local authorities and emergency services remain on alert, ready to respond if any incidents arise.
Earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the region, which lies within the active seismic belt of the Himalayas. The geological dynamics of the area have led to periodic seismic activity, and both Pakistan and the surrounding nations have taken measures to improve preparedness and resilience in the face of such natural occurrences.
As authorities continue to monitor the situation and assess potential impacts, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected population.
