In a surprise turn of events, P.D. Nitya, IPS, who just assumed charge as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda earlier today, is already moving on, as the Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday ordered a major reshuffle of seven police officers across the union territory.
Ms. Nitya’s arrival in Doda was marked by a warm welcome ceremony and an introductory meeting with police officers, where she emphasized dedication, teamwork, and public service as priorities. However, her tenure as SSP Doda was abruptly cut short, with the government order transferring her to Pulwama district with immediate effect.
This unexpected development leaves Doda in immediate need of new leadership. Javid Iqbal, who previously served as SSP Pulwama, will now take over the reins in Doda. Mr. Iqbal brings experience from his prior posting, but the sudden change raises questions about the timing and rationale behind the reshuffle.
While the official order cites “interest of administration” for the transfers, speculations are rife about underlying reasons. Some suggest this may be part of a larger strategic movement of officers across the union territory, while others raise concerns about potential instability stemming from frequent leadership changes.
The remaining transfers announced today include Gaurav Sikarwar, IPS, moving from SP South Srinagar to the State Investigation Agency, Kashmir. Mubasher Hussain fills the vacated SP South Srinagar position, relocating from his role at the State Investigation Agency. Additionally, Shree Ram R, IPS, is relieved from his duties in Jammu and Kashmir to join a new posting in Ladakh.
Rajinder Singh takes over as Addl. SP (Highway) Qazigund, Feroz Ahmad is promoted to SP Operations, Baramulla, and Shabir Ahmad Khan fills the void left by Ms. Nitya’s departure in South Srinagar.
Doda residents, already grappling with challenges, are now left navigating the uncertainty surrounding the latest leadership change. While Mr. Iqbal brings experience, the swift departure of Ms. Nitya, who just emphasized her commitment to the district, and the lack of clarity surrounding the motivations behind the reshuffle leave a cloud of ambiguity over the future of policing in Doda.
