India Orders 93 Million Biryanis in 2025, Up from 83 Million in 2024

India ordered 93 million biryanis through Swiggy in 2025, marking an increase from 83 million in 2024. The report highlights a shift in food delivery perceptions, with ordering becoming instinctive rather than indulgent.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, this translates to 194 biryani orders per minute or 3.25 per second. Chicken biryani topped the list with 57.7 million orders, followed by burgers at 44.2 million and pizzas at 40.1 million. Veg Dosa recorded 26.2 million orders.

Hyderabad led biryani orders in 2024 with 9.7 million, followed by Bengaluru with 7.7 million and Chennai with 4.6 million. The Indian Express reported 6 million biryani plates ordered during Ramadan 2024.

High-protein foods reached 23 million orders, led by Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. The 3 pm to 7 pm slot emerged as peak snacking time. Chicken burgers led snacks with 6.3 million orders, chicken rolls at 4.1 million, samosas at 3.42 million and ginger tea at 2.9 million.

White chocolate cake topped desserts with 6.9 million orders, chocolate cake at 5.4 million and gulab jamun at 4.5 million. Kaju barfi had 2 million orders, and besan ladoo had 1.9 million.

Mexican cuisine recorded 16 million orders, Tibetan 12 million, and Korean 4.7 million. Pahadi cuisine grew ninefold, while Malabari, Rajasthani, and Malvani nearly doubled.

Late-night orders from midnight to 2 am increased, with chicken burgers at 2.3 million and biryani second. Idlis led breakfast with 11 million deliveries, and veg dosas were at 9.6 million.

Ganesh Chaturthi saw 228,000 modak deliveries. Navratri recorded 99,200 sabudana khichdi plates, over 100,000 fasting thalis and 70,000 sabudana vadas. Ashtami evening had 220,000 orders in 60 minutes, up 17 percent in value.

Diwali week saw 1.7 million kilograms of sweets ordered. Rakhi dinner hours had 4,650 orders per minute. A Mumbai user placed 3,196 orders, nine daily. A Hyderabad customer spent Rs 47,106 on 65 dry fruit cookie packs in August.

Restaurant dining had 23.7 million seated diners, with Bengaluru leading with 4.5 million, Delhi 3.9 million and Hyderabad 3.7 million. Premium bookings surged 123.7 percent to 1.6 million, buffets 78 percent to 219,320, Delhi leading with 82,125.

Group bookings were highest in Bengaluru with 749,000, Delhi with 629,000, and Hyderabad with 570,000.
