Supporters of the deceased Congress leader Khushbaz Singh Jattana have raised suspicions of foul play following his death in a road accident on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Haryana’s Sonepat district. Jattana and his driver, Parminder Singh, were killed when a speeding truck allegedly collided with their vehicle, which had reportedly stopped to change a tyre. The incident has prompted calls for a high-level investigation from senior party leaders.
Concerns Raised Over Accident Circumstances
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the accident occurred near the Jakholi toll plaza. Jattana and his gunman were reportedly standing outside their Defender car while the driver and a mechanic were attending to a tyre change. The truck, travelling from behind, is alleged to have struck the stationary vehicle and the individuals standing nearby. Both the gunman and the mechanic sustained injuries in the incident. Some associates of Jattana expressed that the truck reportedly hit the car twice after becoming lodged.
A significant point of suspicion among Jattana’s supporters centres on how a truck approaching from the rear could have impacted a car that was stationary on the left side of the expressway. The circumstances have led to speculation that the incident may not have been a mere accident.
Senior Leaders Demand Probe
The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, and Jalandhar Cantt MLA, Pargat Singh, have publicly called for a thorough investigation into the incident. They stated that the manner in which the accident unfolded has left many questions unanswered, necessitating a comprehensive inquiry to ascertain the facts.
Former Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and now a Congress leader, Gurinder Singh Dhillon, while refraining from endorsing specific conspiracy theories, emphasized that the accident leading to Khushbaz Jattana’s demise warrants a detailed probe. Dhillon, drawing on his experience, described the circumstances of the accident as appearing “abnormal.” He highlighted Jattana as a promising young leader who had been actively involved in politics since his student days.
Background of the Deceased Leader
Khushbaz Singh Jattana was cremated in Bathinda on Friday. He had embarked on his political journey as a student leader. Jattana had contested Assembly elections from the Talwandi Sabo constituency on a Congress ticket in both 2017 and 2022 but was unsuccessful in securing a victory on both occasions. His supporters have expressed a desire for his wife to enter politics and potentially contest from his former constituency, aiming to fulfil his political aspirations.
The incident underscores the sensitivity surrounding political figures and the scrutiny applied to any untoward event involving them. The demand for a high-level probe by prominent Congress leaders indicates the gravity with which they view the circumstances of Jattana’s death.
