Amravati Obscene Videos Case: Three More Arrested as Accused’s House is Razed

Authorities in Maharashtra’s Amravati district have escalated actions in the ongoing investigation into the circulation of obscene videos, arresting three more individuals and demolishing a portion of an accused’s property. The case, which involves the alleged creation and distribution of explicit content featuring women and girls, has led to widespread concern and demands for a thorough probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The Chenab Times has learned that the arrests come as part of a widening investigation into the Amravati obscene videos case, which has seen a significant number of videos and images allegedly circulated online. The recent developments include the razing of a part of an accused’s house, a measure often taken in cases involving serious offenses to prevent further illegal activities or destruction of evidence.

The investigation, which initially focused on a 19-year-old youth identified as Ayan Ahmed Tanveer Ahmed from Paratwada, has now expanded. Initial reports indicated that this youth lured minor girls, recorded objectionable videos against their will, and subsequently uploaded them to social media platforms. These videos were reportedly used for blackmail and to defame the victims. The police have seized the accused’s mobile phone and are actively examining it for evidence, alongside investigating the potential for wider networks involved in the creation and distribution of such content.

Sources indicate that the total number of alleged videos and images in circulation could be substantial, with reports mentioning as many as 18 videos and 39 images allegedly circulated in some accounts, while others suggest up to 350 videos in total, potentially targeting around 180 minor girls. The scope of the alleged cyber exploitation and blackmail has prompted calls for a comprehensive investigation by an SIT, a demand echoed by Rajya Sabha member Anil Bonde, who hails from Amravati.

The accused, identified in some reports as Mohammad Ayaz alias Tanveer from Paratwada, is alleged to have used social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Snapchat to contact minor girls, luring them into relationships. Authorities are investigating claims that victims may have been taken to cities like Mumbai and Pune, where the alleged explicit videos were recorded. The recovered mobile phone is undergoing forensic analysis to retrieve deleted data and identify further leads.

The police have registered cases against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Despite appeals from the police for victims and their families to come forward and cooperate, assuring them of confidentiality, it has been noted that none of the victims have directly approached the police in the matter thus far. The authorities have assured strict legal action against those found guilty.

The case has sent shockwaves through the region, including the neighbouring towns of Paratwada and Achalpur. The alleged involvement of minors and the scale of the purported cyber exploitation have raised serious concerns about online safety and the vulnerability of young individuals to online predators. The involvement of the Cyber Cell in the investigation is crucial for tracing any online distribution of the alleged videos and identifying potential links to wider criminal networks.

The Superintendent of Police (Rural), Vishal Anand, is reportedly overseeing the investigation. The administration is considering the demands for forming a dedicated SIT to delve deeper into the complexities of the case, which may involve unravelling an organized network behind the creation and dissemination of such illicit content. Community leaders and local residents have also called for stringent legal action, emphasizing the need for justice and accountability.

The recent arrests of three additional individuals are indicative of the expanding scope of the investigation, suggesting that the network involved may be more extensive than initially apprehended. The razing of part of an accused’s house signifies the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the case, aiming to dismantle any infrastructure facilitating such criminal activities.

The ongoing investigation continues to gather digital evidence, with forensic teams working diligently to recover data from seized devices. The police are committed to uncovering the full extent of the exploitation and ensuring that all individuals involved face the consequences of their actions. The focus remains on protecting vulnerable individuals and preventing future incidents of this nature through robust law enforcement and increased public awareness regarding online safety.
