Jammu and Kashmir Police Freeze Four Properties in Anantnag Under NDPS Act

SRINAGAR, April 15 – Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken a significant step against the narcotics trade by freezing four residential properties in Anantnag district under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The action targets individuals allegedly involved in the illicit drug business and aims to dismantle their financial assets.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the properties are linked to four individuals: Rayees Ahmed Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar; Sabzar Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Rajab Dar; Mudasir Ahmed Dar, son of Abdul Rahim Dar; and Zahid Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Hassan Dar. All are residents of Tulkhan, Bijbehara, in Anantnag.

According to official statements, preliminary investigations indicated that these properties were acquired using funds generated from illegal narcotics activities. Following these findings, the competent authority, acting under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, ordered the freezing of these assets. The combined market value of the four residential properties has been estimated at approximately Rs 2.25 crore.

This move by the Jammu and Kashmir Police underscores their ongoing efforts to disrupt the financial underpinnings of drug trafficking networks operating within the district. Authorities aim to curb the pervasive menace of narcotics by targeting the economic resources of those involved in the trade. The police department has stated that further investigations into the matter are actively underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged illegal operations and identify any other associated assets or individuals.

The freezing of properties is a critical component of the broader strategy employed by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking. By seizing assets derived from illicit activities, authorities seek to prevent the reinvestment of these funds into further criminal enterprises and to impose a significant financial deterrent on drug peddlers and their financiers. Such actions are intended to create a hostile environment for the narcotics trade, making it more difficult for individuals and groups to profit from the distribution of illegal substances.

The NDPS Act provides stringent measures for the control and regulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Section 68-F specifically empowers authorities to freeze or forfeit illegally acquired property connected with drug trafficking. This legal framework allows for the appropriation of assets that facilitate or are a result of drug-related offenses, thereby striking at the economic motivation behind the trade.

The Anantnag district, like many regions, has been a focus area for anti-drug enforcement operations. The police have consistently emphasized their commitment to eradicating the drug menace, which poses a significant threat to the social fabric and the well-being of the community, particularly its youth. The seizure of these properties is seen as a substantial blow to the local drug trade network, signaling a renewed resolve by the authorities to maintain a drug-free environment. Investigations are expected to continue to ensure accountability and prevent future illicit activities.
