Jammu and Kashmir Government Orders Inspection of 1,742 Schools

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has mandated a comprehensive inspection of all 1,742 high and higher secondary schools operating across the Union Territory. The General Administration Department (GAD) has issued orders for these inspections, which are aimed at assessing the overall functioning and infrastructure of educational institutions.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the government has nominated specific officers to conduct these detailed evaluations of the schools. A total of 1,742 schools have been identified for inspection, with 939 located in the Jammu division and 803 in the Kashmir division. Each nominated officer has been assigned one school to assess.

According to the GAD order, the visiting officers are tasked with objectively evaluating all parameters, meticulously recording their observations, and providing supporting evidence where necessary. The inspections are designed to identify existing gaps, deficiencies, and highlight best practices adopted by the schools during their assessments.

The comprehensive inspection reports are to be submitted by each officer to the respective Directorate of School Education. Furthermore, these reports must be uploaded onto the Sarvekshan Platform (Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) J&K) within a strict deadline of 60 days.

During the course of the inspection, officers will verify several key infrastructural and operational aspects. These include the availability and functionality of government-owned buildings, the presence and operational status of smart classrooms, and the functionality of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories. The assessment will also cover the availability and proper functioning of toilets for both general student use and separate facilities for girls.

Further areas of scrutiny for the visiting officers encompass the availability of Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL), vocational labs, reliable drinking water facilities, consistent power supply, and working internet connections. The condition and availability of playgrounds for student recreation will also be evaluated.

Beyond infrastructure, the inspections will delve into human resource management. Officers will report on the availability of principals, lecturers, masters, and non-teaching staff, along with any vacant positions within these categories. This ensures a comprehensive review of the school’s operational capacity.

The evaluation extends to academic parameters as well. Visiting officers will assess the streams and subjects offered by higher secondary schools, the total student enrollment, and the integration of vocational skill education, including the number of students enrolled in such courses. The officers are also expected to provide actionable suggestions for the improvement of the schools assigned to them, offering insights beyond mere identification of issues.
