Noida International Airport to Commence Flight Operations on June 15; IndiGo to Operate Inaugural Flight

Noida International Airport, located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is set to commence its commercial flight operations on June 15, 2026. IndiGo has been confirmed as the airline that will operate the inaugural flight, marking a significant milestone for air connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR) and northern India.

Airport Inauguration and Operational Readiness

The Noida International Airport was formally inaugurated on March 28, 2026. Following the inauguration, the airport received its Aerodrome Licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on March 6, 2026. The final security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) was recently granted, paving the way for commercial operations after a regulatory hurdle related to the airport’s expatriate CEO was resolved by appointing an Indian executive as interim CEO.

Airlines and Initial Routes

IndiGo will lead the flight operations, with Akasa Air and Air India Express also slated to commence services shortly after. Discussions are ongoing with airlines regarding flight schedules and slots. Initial domestic routes under consideration include major cities such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. International flight services are anticipated to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with airlines from West Asia and Southeast Asia reportedly showing interest.

Capacity and Expansion Plans

The first phase of Noida International Airport, developed at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crore, features a single runway and a passenger terminal with an annual capacity of 12 million passengers. The airport is strategically designed as a multi-modal cargo hub with an initial capacity of over 250,000 metric tonnes annually, expandable to 1.8 million metric tonnes. At full build-out across four phases, the airport is projected to handle up to 70 million passengers annually. The airport is being developed as part of a public-private partnership model and is aimed at complementing Indira Gandhi International Airport by easing congestion and enhancing regional connectivity.

Strategic Location and Economic Impact

Strategically situated along the Yamuna Expressway in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district, the airport is poised to become a major aviation hub for western Uttar Pradesh and the wider NCR. This development is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity, support economic growth, and provide employment opportunities. The airport’s infrastructure is designed for modern operations, with a long-term vision for expansion and net-zero emissions.
