SRINAGAR: Authorities in Srinagar have attached immovable property valued at approximately Rs 1.20 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler as part of an intensified campaign against narcotics trafficking in the Union Territory.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the action was undertaken by the Police Station Nowhatta under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This is in connection with FIR No. 61/2019, registered under Sections 8/20 of the same Act.
The attached assets include a fully renovated three-storey residential house, a separate single-storey concrete kitchen block equipped with three washrooms, and a parcel of land measuring nine marlas. Official records indicate that the property is registered in the name of Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Habibullah Sheikh, a resident of Kani Dewar, Sheikh Mohallah, Hawal, in Srinagar.
According to police statements, investigations have established that the property was acquired through proceeds generated from illegal drug trafficking. It has been identified as an asset obtained through illicit means, falling under the purview of the NDPS Act.
Officials privy to the operation stated that this attachment is a significant step in dismantling the financial infrastructure supporting drug trafficking networks and is aimed at curbing the pervasive trade of narcotics within the region. The move is aligned with the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukht Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan,’ a 100-day campaign specifically targeting drug abuse and trafficking.
Srinagar Police have publicly reiterated their steadfast commitment to implementing stringent measures against individuals involved in drug peddling. The department has also issued an appeal to the general public, urging them to extend their cooperation by providing any information related to drug abuse and trafficking activities, thereby aiding law enforcement in their efforts.
