SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday strongly refuted accusations of “backdoor appointments” made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that the National Conference government operates transparently and defends its outsourcing policies as legitimate administrative tools.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Chief Minister challenged the PDP leadership, led by Mehbooba Mufti, to present concrete evidence of any irregular recruitment processes under his administration.
Abdullah emphasized a clear distinction between improper appointments and the government’s outsourcing strategy. He explained that outsourcing is implemented through structured administrative mechanisms and government-sanctioned schemes, differentiating it from illegal recruitment practices. “There is a difference between backdoor appointments and outsourcing. The outsourcing is done under proper schemes,” the Chief Minister stated.
He suggested that such allegations were strategically employed by the opposition to divert public attention from the ongoing development initiatives and progress within the Union Territory. The Chief Minister further dismissed claims pertaining to transfer postings as inaccurate and driven by political motives.
Addressing a specific point, Abdullah clarified that Shami Oberoi serves as the Treasurer of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and does not hold any ministerial position. He urged political opponents to verify information before making public statements, citing this instance as an example of misinformation. The Chief Minister alleged that the PDP was deliberately attempting to disrupt governance and sidestep discussions on development issues through persistent accusations.
Turning to his constituency, Abdullah highlighted the significant momentum gained by infrastructure and public welfare projects since his electoral victory. He provided an update on the healthcare sector, announcing the forthcoming installation of new equipment at the District Hospital Ganderbal. This enhancement is expected to provide diagnostic tests, which typically cost between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000 at private facilities, at substantially subsidized rates of Rs 500 to Rs 800.
The Chief Minister described these healthcare improvements as integral components of a comprehensive strategy aimed at fostering balanced and sustainable regional development. He revealed that discussions have been held with senior ministers to accelerate the completion of pending projects across various sectors. The administration, he reiterated, remains committed to prioritizing development, enhancing infrastructure, improving healthcare services, and ensuring the welfare of the youth. Regular field visits are being conducted to monitor and ensure the timely execution of projects, particularly in the Ganderbal district.
