Himachal Pradesh: Suspect Detained in Sirmaur Woman’s Unnatural Death Investigation

Police in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district have detained a suspect in connection with the recovery of a half-burnt body of a woman from a forest area, an investigation that has uncovered links to neighbouring Haryana and potential elements of a love affair and attempted poisoning.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the body, believed to be of a 36-year-old woman, was found near Dhaula Kuan under the Paonta Sahib police subdivision. The state of the body suggested an attempt to destroy evidence and conceal the victim’s identity.

The investigation gained significant traction after the Sirmaur police received information from Haryana’s Barara police regarding the movements of a suspect whose location was traced to the Himachal Pradesh district. Acting on this intelligence, law enforcement officers apprehended an individual near Bata Bridge late on Wednesday evening.

Sources indicated that CCTV footage from Haryana’s Barara area purportedly showed the suspect transporting a sack on a rickshaw. Investigators are operating under the premise that the woman’s body was concealed within this sack before being transported to Himachal Pradesh. It has also been reported that a kidnapping case was previously registered against the suspect in Haryana.

Preliminary findings of the investigation suggest a possible love affair between the detained suspect and the deceased woman. Authorities are also examining claims that the pair may have jointly planned to consume poison. However, current investigative theories posit that the woman ingested the poisonous substance and succumbed to it, while the suspect survived and subsequently attempted to dispose of the body.

The suspect allegedly transported the body to the Dhaula Kuan forest region, where an effort was made to burn it in an attempt to eliminate any forensic traces. Investigators are also exploring the possibility that the suspect remained in or around the Paonta Sahib area even after the alleged commission of the crime.

Nishchint Singh Negi, the Superintendent of Police in Sirmaur, confirmed the development, stating that Haryana Police had indeed contacted the district police concerning the case and that one suspect had been taken into custody. He added that further details would be disclosed only upon the conclusion of the investigation and the thorough verification of all pertinent facts.

The postmortem examination of the deceased woman is slated to be conducted at the Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College. Law enforcement officials anticipate that the postmortem report will yield crucial evidence and potentially lead to further significant revelations in this unfolding and sensitive case.
