Delhi: 23 Rescued From Rohini Building Fire Amid Dramatic Scenes

New Delhi: Twenty-three individuals were rescued from a multi-storey residential building in Delhi’s Rohini area on Tuesday morning after a fire broke out, leading to dramatic rescue operations. The fire, which began on the ground floor, rapidly spread smoke, trapping residents in their homes and on balconies.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about the blaze at 7:06 am, dispatching three fire tenders to the location in Vijay Vihar. Initial reports indicate the fire originated from an electricity meter section on the ground floor, engulfing several parked vehicles, including three scooties, two motorcycles, and a bicycle. The rapid spread of smoke created panic among the building’s occupants.

Visuals from the scene showed residents stranded on upper floors, with one individual attempting a precarious descent using a rope before being instructed by firefighters to wait for a safer evacuation. Firefighters utilized ladders to safely bring individuals down from balconies and upper floors. The intensity of the fire was visible with sparks and flames emanating from the ground floor, accompanied by thick plumes of smoke.

According to DFS officials, 22 people were rescued by fire personnel, while one individual was assisted by local residents prior to the fire department’s arrival. Two people sustained injuries during the incident and were transported to Jaipur Golden Hospital, where their condition was reported as stable.

The fire was completely doused by approximately 8:00 am. While the precise cause of the fire is under investigation, preliminary findings suggest a possible short circuit in the electricity meter area. Fire and police officials are continuing their examination of the incident to determine the exact circumstances.
